Sayers, Frank

In Latin: Sacred to the memory of a man beloved and missed for many reasons, Frank Sayers, M.D. In him, keen judgment was matched by natural genius. In his conversation there was an innocent charm, seasoned with gravity. Devoted to letters, he shrank from insolent harshness. That his abundant learning might be matched by liberality of manners, He lived a moderately, simply, piously, with probity; yet toward the poor he was generous according to his means, toward friends courteous, and to all benevolent. What his achievements were in archaeology, history, philosophy, and poetry his writings bear witness. What kind of man he was is shown by the tears of those who survive him. He died on the 6th day of August in the year of our Lord 1817, at the age of 55.
