Hill, Robert

In Latin: Beside Daniel and Frances, who lie buried below, here rests their third-born son, Robert Hill. He strove earnestly to emulate the virtues which in each of them were of the highest order, but he alone lacked longer time to exercise them. He lived 42 years and 9 months—enough for himself, too little for his loved ones. On the thirteenth day before the Kalends of December (19 November), in the year of our Lord 1729, he passed from life, to the sorrow—though not the hopeless sorrow—of his friends. Of all he deserved well, but best of all of his brother; nor did his name perish when his body did. This memorial, a monument and token of love, was set up by Thomas, heir through the female line. Farewell forever, brother, and farewell, parents, whom once he honored with constant devotion, whom the earth now holds in its sacred bosom. May this place long protect the departed.
