Barrell, Francis

In Latin: Near his own people lies Francis Barrell, Esquire: Born 26 January 1662. His most beloved wife was Anna, of the families of the Kitchells and the Lovelaces. He, the heir of his father’s virtues as well as his name and office, was in no way unworthy of them. He perfectly displayed a truly amiable example for posterity, in the holiness of his conduct, the piety of his life, his yearning for heavenly things, and his contempt for earthly things, of which he had long grown weary. Above all, in a certain remarkable "pudor", which he so happily tempered that the modesty of a man of probity did not impede the [...] of a vigorous orator. At last he embraced the joys he had greatly longed for, dying on 11 June 1724.
