Eyre, John
In Latin: Sacred to the memory of John Eyre M.A. , for several years Archdeacon of Nottingham and Canon Residentiary of this cathedral church, a man distinguished among his contemporaries for the most sweet antiquity of his morals, pious, simple and tireless in his preaching, the more so because of the source upon which he drew, since he strove to make his hearers such men as he constantly showed himself to be. He died on the 10th of Kalends of April (23 March) in the Year of Grace 1830. [Translation courtesy of York Minster collections, amended.]
