Pearson, William

In Latin: sacred to the memory of WILLIAM PEARSON LL.D., Chancellor of the Diocese of York, Archdeacon of Nottingham, Residentiary Canon and Sub-Dean of this church and also Rector of Bolton Percy. He was a man loaded not so much with wealth and dignities as with merit and clerical accomplishments. He administered each office he adorned in an exemplary manner. A man moreover clearly distinguished by piety, charity and sweetness of manners; who by assiduously applying himself to sacred studies weakened a fairly strong health, and made his life - most dearly cherished by all - very short. He died 6th February 1715/16, aged 53. His sorrowing wife had this monument erected to her dearest husband. [Translation courtesy of York Minster Records, amended.]
