To the Memory of GEORGE, the Son of ANTHONY DUNCOMBE Esq of BARFORD, & The Honourable MARGARET VERNEY His Wife; He dyed in the flower of Youth regretted by all who knew him, having by a tender & affectionate  Respect Endeared himself to his Parents, & by an obliging & courteous behaviour, which was natural to him, gained ye Love & Esteem of all his acquaintance, And if Modesty & Sweetness of temper joyned with good Sense are Signs of a Generous Mind, & when found in Youth prognosticate what the Man will be, he had given Great hopes that he would one day prove a Valuable friend both to rich & poor & an Ornament to his Family & Country. He was born in ye Expectation of a great Fortune: but that was not to be discovered by any part of his behaviour, which was untainted by pride, uncorrunpted by ye prospect of affluence before him: a great Indication that had it please God to prolong his Life he would have enjoyed Riches with the same Moderation of Mind, with which in his younger days he viewed them at a Distance. As aggravating as these Circumstances are to those most nearly concerned in the Loss, yet they afford this Comfort, That he lived long enough to give proof of a mind furnished with principles of Honour & [...]. He dyed with a perfect Resignation to the Will of God & a firm Trust in his Blessed Redeemer, & is ([his parents] confidently hope and trust) far Happier that They could make him. This monument was erected by hi Mournfull Parents: the Only thing they ever [...]  for their Son: but it was the Last & Only Gift they could bestow. He was born the 7th day of March 1722. He dyed the 9th day of August 1741.
